Some Motorcycle Tips
For the Riding Season
- Before you hit the road, give your bike a tune-up.
- Check the oil and fuel levels.
- Make sure the mirrors are positioned correctly.
- Test the lights, brakes, and turn signals.
- Oil the chain and adjust it according to the manufacturer’s specs.
- Give all the cables a look to make sure they aren’t worn or frayed.
- Take it easy at first to let your skills settle back in.
- Buy some new gear!
When you’re on the open road, there’s not much between you and the pavement. Wearing tough gear is always a smart move.
- Get a helmet that fits well and is approved by the DOT. If it doesn’t have a face shield, pair it up with goggles or glasses, but be sure they are safety lenses.
- Go for that leather jacket. Get the pants while you’re at it. This is great protection between your body and the pavement if you should loose control.
- Get some non-slip gloves.
- Wear boots or sneakers that cover your ankles from the hot motor and exhaust, as well as, protection in the case of an accident. Flip-flop won’t cut it.
While you are Cruising the Open Road
- Know your limits and your bike’s limits.
- Obey the laws.
- Don’t follow too closely.
- Use your signals while turning.
- Use common sense and be a defensive driver. You are probably the smallest vehicle on the road.
